The Devonport Maritime Museum and Historical Society Inc. is a non-profit organisation manned and managed entirely by volunteers.

The Museum first opened in an old house at East Devonport in 1973. However, when the former Harbour Master's residence in Gloucester Avenue, West Devonport, became available in 1981 the Museum was relocated to this new location.
A new gallery added in 1997 doubled the exhibition space and enabled the local history collection amassed by the Devon Historical Society to be housed in the building.

Located in parkland near the mouth of the Mersey river it holds an interesting collection of models, photographs, artifacts, and paintings and its comprehensive research library and local history collection make it a one-stop venue for anyone interested in maritime or local history.
The model collection on display within the museum is particularly outstanding.
